will present the talk titled

Predicting pseudoscience beliefs: Individual differences & the role of information

Abstract

The spread of pseudoscience has increased the las decades, and it is a matter of concern both for governments and scientists. However, the study of pseudoscience beliefs is in its early stages and requires further theoretical and psychometric support to determine which variables can help to explain this phenomenon.
The aim of the present study was to move towards the unification of the scales used so far to measure pseudoscience beliefs, and to provide new analytical perspectives as well as new predictors capable of explaining the variability in those beliefs. To study this, we collected data from 268 participants using an online survey.
Our results suggest that considering the different themes that fall within the concept of “Pseudoscience” is useful for a better understanding of this phenomenon, and that the inclusion of new predictors, such as unconventional Thinking and the type of information received, may be the key for this research field.
