Ignasi Sols Balcells – Thesis defense

Ignasi Sols finished his degree in Biochemistry in 2011 at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB). In 2012, he moved to the Neuroscience Institute of Alicante (CSIC-UMH), where he investigated the development of the mouse neocortex in the laboratory of Dr. Oscar Marin for 2 years, coursing also a Master in Neurodevelopmental Biology. In 2014, he moved to the University of Barcelona (UB) to start a Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience under the supervision of Dr. Lluís Fuentemilla.

In this thesis, Ignasi aimed to examine the neural mechanisms supporting the encoding and retrieval of episodic sequences in humans. In particular, he investigated whether and how context shifts, or event boundaries, carved memory representations of the just encoded event episode through their online rapid memory reinstatement and how this impacted on their retrieval at long-term.
