Javiera finished her degree in Biology in 2008 in the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Her early research experience began in laboratories of animal behavior and neurobiology where she worked with non-human animals. She then moved to the field of cognitive neuroscience to study patients with Posttraumatic stress disorder. Later on, Javiera moved to Barcelona to start her master in 2011 and continued to do her PhD. During this time she has been investigating the mechanisms underlying memory modification when learning new but related information. She focused on threat-related memories and sleep-dependent memory consolidation. She believes that deep understanding of these mechanisms harbors important implications for the treatment of maladaptive memories.
Javi will receive her PhD this July in the Doctoral program in Research in Personality and Behavior under the supervision of Lluís Fuentemilla and Ruth de Diego Balaguer.
